DescriptionSUMMARY:The Associate Vice President (AVP) for
Philanthropy & Engagement will serve as a crticial member of the
team, providing strategic leadership to the Universitys
Philanthropy, Annual Programs, Alumni Engagement, and Philanthropy
Operations units. The AVP plans, organizes, and executes the major
gifts program and is the primary tactical, administrative, and
management officer for the Vice President for Philanthropy &
Engagement.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-leads planning, coordination, implementation, and management
of the Universitys Philanthropy & Engagement division, providing
oversight of fundraising strategies, annual and quarterly goals,
and solicitations to ensure targets are met.
- Oversees directors staff, budget, programs, and projects,
interacting regularly with staff to ensure reporting of fundraising
finances. Establishes a culture that ensures resources are directed
to areas of greatest return, contributing to a comprehensive plan
that scales up fundraising and engagement and supports sustained
growth as the university works toward a capital campaign.
- Ensures unit plans are developed in a thorough and consistent
framework, metrics are defined and tracked, monthly/annual plans
are submitted, initiatives are monitored for completion, and
budgets are effectively utilized.
- Manages a targeted portfolio of major and principal gift
prospects, involving the Vice President for Philanthropy &
Engagement and President when appropriate.
- Ensures the right team members are directing efforts to areas
of greatest productivity.
- Serves as chief operations officer and prepares and supports
staff in gift development. Arranges for appropriate training and
professional development to be available and utilized for
development of support staff.
- Represents the university at public functions and events,
including social and professional gatherings at the direction of
the Vice President for Philanthropy and Engagement.
- Serves as the approver and signee in the absence of the Vice
President for Philanthropy & Engagement.
- Maintains familiarity with important issues relating to higher
education, fundraising, and financial planning, remaining informed
on best practices that advance University support and
engagement.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelors degree.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Minimum of eight (8) years
related experience including fundraising success in major gift
development and solicitations. Supervisory and operations
management experience. Demonstrated experience in donor relations,
alumni relations, and working and communicating with volunteer
leaders and donors. Excellent interpersonal and organizational
skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent presentation skills. Strong work ethic, personal
integrity, and strategic thinking.
- Ability to: Understanding of relational fundraising and skill
to convincingly articulate needs and goals that motivate potential
donors to make gifts. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively
with others. Ability to prioritize. Ability to work with sensitive
information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work both
independently and collaboratively.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid drivers license
required.

EXPERIENCE:Advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) or certification
in an appropriate area of specialization. Higher education
fundraising experience. Capital campaign experience. Database
application experience using Raisers Edge.SUPERVISION OF
OTHERS:Executive Director of Philanthropy, Director of Philanthropy
Operations, Director of Annual Giving & Special Programs, Director
