Theatre Facilities Manager

Job Description:

Responsible for all areas of technical direction and facilities management in collaboration with the Director of Theatre. This position leads technical operations including costumes, scenes, lighting, sound, properties; it also serves as a facilities manager to scheduled productions and events and to coordinate performance space leasing as appropriate. 

 

The salary range for this position is $34,670.15 to $39,004.00/annually.


  • 25%   Designs, drafts, builds, and maintains sets and props for theater productions on schedule and within budget.
  • 20%   Works with the Director of Theatre in production scheduling and budget allocation for the drama department; attends all production meetings and tech rehearsals.  Assists in recruitment for the theatre program.
  • 10%   Supervises students in areas of lighting, sound, special effects, scenic construction, carpentry, scenic painting, prop construction, installation, safety, and security as appropriate.
  • 10%   Coordinates bookings, schedules, and supervises student workers.
  • 10%   Prepares, sets up, operates, and strikes for all events that occur within Cruce Stark Auditorium.
  • 10%   Maintains an environment in venues and shops that complies with all local, state, and federal safety rules and regulations. Remains current on best practice standards in relation to technical theatre production and performance.
  • 10%   Purchases supplies, maintains inventories and cost control.
  • 5%     Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires an Associates degree with four years of full-time professional experience or a Bachelor's Degree in Drama/Theatre.
  • A minimum of two years of production management experience and/or stage management experience in a theater or academic setting is required. 
  • A minimum of four years of experience in the operation and maintenance of stage lighting and sound equipment is required.
  • Experience in community/college collaboration that supports student learning is preferred. 
  • Experience in a higher education or professional setting working collaboratively to produce quality theater productions is preferred.
  • Summer theater camp experience is preferred.    
  • Candidates should have a solid technical theatre background in scenic and property construction, rigging, scenic painting, lighting, and sound.
  • Should have proficient knowledge of record keeping procedures and safety precautions as represented in OSHA specifications.
  • Should have proficient knowledge in computer applications including but not limited to Vectorworks, AutoCAD.
  • Should have excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Normal courtesy and tact is required in this position. 
  • Candidates should be able to maintain a friendly, safe, and supportive work environment.
  • The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.
  • Candidates must have the ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Candidates must have the ability to ascend/descend ladders and work at heights from ladders more than 12 feet from the ground for an extended period of time.
