Senior Network Engineer, 9-1-1 (Specialist, Tier II -1-1 Equipment)

Job Description: The 9-1-1 Tier II Specialist provides technical assistance for Frontier supported 9-1-1 customer premise equipment (CPE) and related hardware – including 9-1-1 selective routers, controllers, network and other equipment associated with the delivery of 9-1-1 voice and data. The 9-1-1 Tier II Technical Support team serves as the subject matter expert for 9-1-1 CPE and related network elements and is available 7x24x365 to facilitate timely resolution of trouble referrals requiring Tier II support.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Technical support: provide phone and email assistance, onsite field support when necessary, remotely access / monitor equipment and systems to facilitate timely trouble analysis and resolution.
  • Pre-sales support and cutover assistance: provide support in pre-sales proposal review, system planning, network configuration and cut-over assistance, as warranted.
  • CPE Hardware/Software information review and distribution: Evaluation of channel partner service packs/hot fixes, performs first installation of new releases, vendor or interdepartmental trouble escalation/follow-up, development of methods and procedures and product testing in the Frontier 9-1-1 lab.
  • Next Generation 9-1-1 IP equipment and systems Tier II lab connectivity testing and facilitation of trouble resolution
  • Maintenance and updating of 9-1-1 support databases and lab network diagraming (Remedy, FTR911)
Experience and Skills Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge of Enhanced 9-1-1 voice, and data networks, equipment and systems; including
  • Motorola/VESTA, Intrado, INdigital, and Solacom CPE, ECS and DMS/5ESS selective routers, controllers ,related central office technologies and supporting network engineering requirements.
  • Working knowledge of PBX systems, VoIP, Ethernet design and support
  • Working knowledge of Next Generation 9-1-1 IP principles, networking and systems.
  • Working knowledge of Networking Switching technologies (TDM, IP, TCP/IP, Ethernet, LAN,WAN), and transport facilities
  • Working knowledge of network related components (switches, routers, hubs, controllers, QoS)
  • Extensive network problem analysis and resolution experience; ability to effectively communicate with Tier I support (field technicians) and vendor(s) to facilitate problem resolution
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to facilitate problem resolution with Tier I support, vendor(s) channel and related reporting.
  • Working knowledge of equipment maintenance, monitoring protocols and software.
  • Computer Skills – Must be proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint)
  • Public Safety Industry Engagement and Knowledge (NENA,APCO,ATIS,IEEE,other)

Degrees and Certifications: (Preferred)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in communications, data networking IT or equivalent
  • Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP or equivalent a plus • Emergency Number Professional (ENP)
